    Auto Shutdown Snapshot

Auto Shutdown helps you to schedule Windows shut down and define global keyboard shortcuts for different shut down actions (i.e. turn off, restart, log off, stand by & hibernate).

Different types of time scheduling is supported in Auto Shutdown. You can schedule Windows to turn off at a specific time and date, at specific times on specific week days, after a specific period of time from now, or at a specific time after system reboot.

    Features:

    • Auto Shutdown is open-source, and does NOT install any Ad ware or Spyware.
    • Auto Shutdown lets you define different types of time schedules.
    • Auto Shutdown lets you define different keyboard shortcuts for different type of shut down actions.
    • Auto Shutdown works with all versions of Windows (i.e. Windows 98 up to Windows Vista).

    Considerations:

    • In Windows 2000, XP, and Vista you need to have proper administrative permission to shutdown Windows.

    Versions:

    • 1.1.0(53) : (2010/11/28)
      • Some minor bugs are fixed.
    • 1.1.0(50) : (2010/04/25)
      • Added customizable warning timeout.
      • Added taskbar progress bar for warning message in Windows 7.
    • 1.0.0(46) : (2010/04/02)
      • Bug in weekly scheduler is fixed (See Liza’s comment below).
      • Some minor GUI updates, and bug fixes are done.
    • 1.0.0(42) : (2009/12/01)
      • GUI is updated.
      • Some minor bugs are fixed.
    • 0.8.8(23) : (2009/10/29)
      • Vista & Windows 7 support is added.
      • If  Hibernate or Stand by are not available, a balloon hint will be shown instead of an interrupting dialog box.
    • 0.8.7(15) : (2007/01/07)

    System Requirements:

    • Windows 9x, Me, 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7.
    • 1 MB free space on hard disk.
    • Consumes about 5 MB of system memory.

    • Good tool.

      1. Can you enhance it by making it as a service?

      2. Give the ability for users to postpone the shutdown for desired time like 30mins, 1hr, 2hrs etc. Then prompt again 10mins before desired time expires and countdown should start. If no response within that time shutdown should begin.

Or can you share your source code?

      Thanks

      • Kris,

        - Making it to run as a service doesn’t add any significant advantage to Auto Shutdown.

        - I cannot add any new feature to it for now, cuz I am busy with some other projects.

        - I’m gonna migrate the source code from Delphi 7 to Delphi 2009 whenever I find some free time. Then I may publish it as an open-source software.

        Regards

    • Program is a bit worthless actually. When a restart is activated, you cannot log out of the system. Therefore you must run this program while being logged in, hence the request above for making it a Service or at least a Scheduled task.

Unless I am missing something, this would be a huge oversight.

      • Venom; it depends on your usage scenario. This program starts when a user is logged into system. It is an interactive process, not a service which has no interaction with user.

If you really need to schedule shutdown or restart even before logging into any account; you can use Windows Task Scheduler and define a new task which runs Shutdown.exe.
This will provide you the mechanism to shutdown or restart the system either a user is logged in or not.

      • Actually, thi sprogram is not worthless… i run a gameing server and I turn it of at 5:30Am and it turns back on at 8:15Am every day…(the program dosent turn it on too, thats an opting in your BIOS) anyways this program is handy thankyou!

    • Thank you, This is very usuful

I am using this program to solve the computer addiction.

    • Thanks for this great program.

    • I have been using Auto-shutdown for awhile now and I love it. Recently it stopped working, though. For some reason it seems to be disabled by default when I start up each day. Any idea why this would happen or how to fix?

      • Hi Lis,

To be able to investigate your problem, I need to reproduce it on my machine. My email address is available in About page of Auto Shutdown; can you send me an email, and give me these information:

1- Version of Windows that you use (e.g. XP, Vista, 7, etc.).
2- Exact scheduling that you are using in Auto Shutdown.
3- One or a few ate and time in which you saw Auto Shutdown running in disabled mode.

        Thank you.

      • Thanks to Lisa’s bug report, I fixed a bug in weekly scheduler, and done a few minor improvements on Auto Shutdown in version 1.0.0.46.

    • Why I can not choose from A.M. and P.M.

      • Gianni, Can you send me a screenshot of your Auto Shutdown running, and you not being able to set AM/PM?

To take a screenshot of your Auto Shutdown, you can press Alt+PrtScn keys while Auto Shutdown window is open and active. Then go to Paint program (Start Menu -> Accessories) and select Paste from Edit menu. It will create a screenshot of Auto Shutdown in Paint. Now you can save this by selecting Save from File menu. Select JPEG or PNG fromat so that the image size won’t be too big.

        Thanks

    • I do not have your e-mail to send to you the screenshot.

      • @Gianni, my email address is in the About tab of Auto Shutdown as a link. Just click on my name on the about page. It is also available in the about page of this website.

    • Ali, it works great now, thanks!!

Here is a suggestion for a future version: it would be good to be able to configure the amount of time after the warning that you have to finish and close down programs before shutdown takes effect. One minute is not enough time for me sometimes.

Again, thanks for a great program!

    • @Lis, customizable warning timeout is added in version 1.1.

      Regards

    • Could you make a sleep option in windows 7?
I understand there’s a hibernation option, but sleep is quicker.

      Thank You.

Love your product, keep doing what you’re doing.

      • @SmartedPAnda, if Sleep mode is enabled in your Windows 7, then selecting Standby in Auto Shutdown as the selected action should put your system in Sleep mode.

        Have you tried that?

    • Sometimes when I start up my computer I get this error:

Access violation at address 004D3119 in module ‘AutoShutdown.exe’. Read of address 00000038.

It still seems to run ok.

      ?

    • Oops, I did not see the new version released above! Great! I am downloading it now.

    • Central Pharmacy

Why does it throw up an error message everytime the pc starts up again??

      • @Central Pharmacy; Could you please send me more information? I need this info to investigate the case:
1- What version of Auto Shutdown are you using? (You can find version number in About page).
2- What version of Windows are you using? (e.g. XP. Vista, Se7en, etc.).
3- Which scheduling did you choose in Options page?
4- What error message do you receive?

You can e-mail me this info so that I can investigate the case, and fix the reported bug. My email address is available in this link.

        Regards

    • Am or Pm don’t working in windows 7,see my screen.I have choice ,but can’t see.

      http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g185/joshua1964/Naamloos-7-1.jpg

      I like you program,it is great,Thanks.

      • @Jashua, It seems something’s wrong with your time settings. Please go to “Control Panel | Region and Language”, then in Formats page, click on “Additional settings..”, then go to Time page, and check what is selected for AM Symbol, and PM Symbol. Also check what is written in Short Time, and Long Time boxes. They must look like hh:mm tt and hh:mm:ss tt. Please notice at tt at the end of the strings.

    • Love your product :)

One thing that really annoys me – if I set the time for like 3AM – it should shutdown the computer for the following day at this time.

i.e. Lets say its currently 12PM and I set 3AM – then it should set the shutdown for 3AM the following day. At the moment, if I set it for 3AM – it won’t activate unless I do it at 12:01AM.

Is it possible to set this up ? i.e. basically, if the time has passed already – do it for the next day ?

      Thx

      • Hi Andy,

Can you tell me what time scheduling option are you using in Auto Shutdown? We have three types:

1- Scheduling based on the current time (e.g 10 mins from now).

        2- Weekly Schedules.

        3- Specific date and time.

If you choose specific date and time, it shows you two boxes; one for entering date, and the other for entering time. If you keep date box to today’s date, and set only time field, then it does not work as you expected.

To make it work, you should set date field to tomorrow, and time to whatever you want. This way, it will do the job on the specified date and time.

        Regards,
        Ali

        • Hey Ali,

Thx for the response – I am using the “every week on … everyday”.

I understand there is the option to change it everyday – but if I forgot to do this one day then it won’t shutdown.

Would be great to be able to just setup it for everday @ XX:XX time and for it to shutdown at that time everyday ?

This is why i mentioned – i.e. Lets say its currently 12PM and I set 3AM – then it should set the shutdown for 3AM the following day. At the moment, if I set it for 3AM – it won’t activate unless I do it at 12:01AM.

Thanks again – its a super handy piece of sofwtare!

          Cheers

          • Hi Andy,

That is right, if date was changed while the application was running, it wasn’t functioning correctly.

I fixed that issue in the latest version (1.1.0.52). Now it checks for date change, and if the date is changed, it recalculates action time for the new date.

Please download the new version from the download link in this page, and let me know if it works for you.

            Best Regards

    • It’s good work. Please try to add Option of capturing the desktop before the auto shutdown. It’s included in “AMP WinOFF” (freeware with closed source).

    • I am unable to uninstall it. It is running on the system tray but not listed under “Add or Remove Programs”. I am not please with it. People can try winmend auto shutdown. This sucks

      • Vipin;

Auto Shutdown adds itself to the list of installed Windows applications, and is visible in “Add/Remove Programs”. Also, it provides an Uninstall icon in its Start menu group.

So it provides at least two mechanisms for uninstalling:
1- Uninstall it using its start menu icon.
2- Uninstall it using Control Panel applet.

If you do not have it in your Add\Remove Program list, then probably you either edited that list manually using a utility program, or you didn’t install it correctly.

My recommendation is, you download the latest version, and install it once. When the installation is successfully finished, then use one of the two methods above, to uninstall it from your system. That would fix any installation problem you might have had with the previous installation.

        Regards

    • Hi, i wonder if you can share the funcions that makes the computer turn off.. is b’cuz i dont have delphi and i cant use it too..i only use C#.. i like your program..congratulation..

please help me with the funtions :D bye

    • You should make it so that relative time, can be a text box that you can enter hours and mins. currently the maximum is 180 mins.

Say for example a download that i have is going to take my computer 4 hours to complete. I have to use the schedule option, and do the math to find the suitable time for my computer to shut down. Laziness is the foundation for efficiency. I just want to copy and paste the time i see from my download and just type it into auto shutdown. if you know what i mean.

great program by the way. I was going to write one myself but as I told you, im lazy. LOL!

    • Great tool! Thank you!

    • Es interesante lo que dices. Te agrego a mi lector de noticias, sigue así

    • i have some problem like liz said. Access violation at address 004D3119 in module ‘AutoShutdown.exe’. Read of address 00000038.
but, when i check my startup menu with tuneup utilities, i found 2 autoshutdown startup.
after i deleted one of them, ther is no message of access violation …
perhaps, you can fix it. thanks very much.
sorry about my english language, i hope you can understand what i mean.
      i used autoshutdown ver 1.1.0.52

      • Thank you, I will investigate the case. Can you tell me what version of Windows you are using?

        • i used ver 1.1.0.52
now, i got error message again. access violation eror. i set autoshutdown for everyday turn off at 6.00AM. and auto startup.
          please help………..
when i start program again, there is error message , “the warning timeout you spesified is to long for the selected scheduled action”
i tried to uninstall and install agai, but the error still occur.

    • Constantly getting the error on Windows 7 that “error writing schedule to registry” whenever I try and set a time for the subsequent day on the previous day ?

i.e. 9AM on Wednesday – current day is Tuesday

      Is this an error ?

    • can any one help me….im facing trouble to un install auto shut down…..even after un installing it the icon is still remaing in thetool bar…????

      • Hi Kalyan,

Could you tell me what version of Auto Shutdown are you using?

Please download the latest version from this website (the link is in this page, just above comments). Then install it, when Auto Shutdown icon appears in the notification icon, right-click on it, and select Exit. Then uninstall the program using the uninstaller which is in Auto Shutdown folder in Start menu, or from Control Panel. Auto Shutdown should be uninstalled smoothly.

        Good Luck

    • i used window 7 ultimate

    • All, please download and install Auto Shutdown 1.1.0.53 from download link in this page (the link is above comments section).

This version should fix the errors which was been reported by Andy, handra92, and kalyan.

Before installing the new version, make sure Auto Shutdown is closed.

      I’m sorry for the inconvenience.

      Best Regards,
      Ali

    • I miss the CPU load shutdown, very helpful when time required to complete an action is unknown. Can it again be included in the new updated version?

      • Hi Harry,

Auto Shutdown never had “CPU load shutdown”. Probably you were using a different application rather than my Auto Shutdown; however, “CPU load shutdown” seems to be a good idea, I may add such a feature to Auto Shutdown in future.

        Best Regards

    • Why cant I use this program to go hibernate if KM player is on and running? Do I have to turn off all programs so he can do action i want him to do? Cause I am used to watch something when i go to bed, and if i fall asleep I dont want my computer running all night!

      Thank You

      • @Uros,

It seems your player has an option to disable sleeping (e.g. Standby or Hibernate) when you are watching a movie. This is a logical option because usually when you are watching a movie, you don’t interact with input devices, and your system might go to sleep automatically.

I don’t have KM Player here, and I am not sure if KM Player has such an option. Please go to its configuration page, and check if there is any option for disabling sleep while watching a movie.

        Regards

That is not an issue; players like KM Player or Windows Media Player have a setting which disables sleeping (Standby or Hibernate) when you are watching a movie

    • I am getting a notice “unclean shutdown.” What does this mean?

    • Best autoshutdown program so far.
      Well done!!!

keep up the good work, put your webpage on my favaurite.

    • Hi Ali

After the Auto Shutdown execute one Re-start its “Disabling” itself,,
      I am running winXp Embedded,,

1- Version of Windows that you use (e.g. XP, Vista, 7, etc.).= XP Embedded Version 2002 Service Pack 3 – OEM Vicon Systems
2- Exact scheduling that you are using in Auto Shutdown.= Daily 09:30
3- One or a few ate and time in which you saw Auto Shutdown running in disabled mode.
      = everytime,, I tried on 2 PC’s.

    • Thanks for the good tool,it works with my windows XP but Windows 7.Can it be upgraded?

    • Hi, the software works great overall, I have it installed on about 8 POS system to shutdown at night about 12:45 am, it worked about few weeks and now they all come up in disabled mode, I saw someone have similar problem on this forum. I am running win7 32 bit professional and few machines are Windows2000, auto shutdown version 1.1.053. What can I do to enable the software all the time.
      Thanks.

    • Thanks for this prog. I’m using it for 3years now :) from his first primitive version :D

    • Hi mr Programmer

the stuff is good enough, and i really appreciate, dude u got some new stuff or not?

      thanks

    • thanks for all your kindness, hopefully grow really successfully, I like this program, great

    • I am getting a message as ‘Your system doesnot support Hibernation’.I have choose the action as ‘Shutdown’ for 9:00pm everyday.
      OS :XP Home Edition
      SP-3
AMD Processor 2.01GHz with 1GB RAM

      JS

      • @JS, that is just an informative balloon message to remind you Hibernation is disabled in your system configuration, thus it is not available in Auto Shutdown as an action. It is not an error message and does not interrupt you, so you can ignore it as long as you do not need Hibernation. If you need Hibernation, as soon as you enable it in your system configuration, Auto Shutdown won’t show that balloon message anymore.

    • Can you add an option to Force close “not responding program” for windows 7 Thanks ?
Please send me your answer via email….
      Thank you very much… :)

    • Video Tutorial link is dead.

So, What I want to know is how to set the program to shutdown the computer at 4:00am and then restart it at 4:10 or just restart after then shutdown.

Seems simple, but I can’t seem to make it work. Thanks

      Gary

      • Gary,

Auto Shutdown or any other Windows application can only turn off your computer. They cannot turn on your computer. If you need to turn on your computer at a specific time, you should check your computer’s BIOS setup. Usually PCs have an option in the BIOS setup about turning on the PC at a specific time, or when a wake up signal is sent via LAN or phone line.

If you need to just restart your computer (not turning it off), then you can set Action in Auto Shutdown to Restart. That would restart your computer at the time specified.

For setting Auto Shutdown to turn off (or restart) your computer at 4:00 AM every day, you can follow this procedure:
1- Run Auto Shutdown, and double-click on its icon to open its configuration page.
2- Select the proper action from Action drop-down list.
3- In Time Schedule section select “Every week on”.
4- Click in the box below “Every week on” title, to bring up a list of week days. Activate all days.
5- Go to the next box at the right (time box), and set time to 04:00 AM.
        6- Click on Apply button.

This will make Auto Shutdown down run the selected action every day at 4:00 AM.

        Have Fun

      • BTW, about the video tutorial, it was provided by another website. I don’t know what went wrong with them. It must be available in this YouTube link too:

        http://youtube.com/watch?v=6f2tgwg4_gc

    • Have you ever considered adding more videos to your blog posts to keep the readers more entertained? I mean I just read through the entire article of yours and it was quite good but since I’m more of a visual learner,I found that to be more helpful well let me know how it turns out

    • I am trying to use this program to shut down the unused computers when the users are not paying attention to saving electricity. Can you add a feature to turn off the computer 20 minutes after LACK OF ACTIVITY. Perhaps by tracking the keyboard or mouse input.

Ok, thank you it was very simpel.
          Your program is top.

        • Gaston Van Camp

Ok, but how to make the difference between AM and PM ??

          • Gaston Van Camp

In central Europe we use à clock with 24 hours, so in the param of my computer I used HH:mm and not hh:mm we are not use AM / PM.
I have trie to make some modifications in the parameters and I receive a date like 18:15 PM
that is not correct, but with these changes your program is working with AM / PM.
I have reinitialize my parameters without AM / PM but I cannot use your program.

          • Gaston Van Camp

Hi, problem is solved, I had just to put AM and PM in Symbol area.

    • Hi,

Is it possible to have a version of Auto Shutdown (a very useful program) which gives us the possibility to leave the machine on for more than 180 minutes – it’s a bit limiting.

      Thanks, DW

    • Gaston Van Camp

Hi Aly, Sometimes when I start up my computer I get this error:

Access violation at address 004D9569 in module ‘AutoShutdown.exe’. Read of address 00000038.

      Windows 7 32 bits Ultimate
      AutoShutdown version = 1.1.0.53

      Thank’s for help.

    • hi,
since i have started auto shutdown, i can not shutdown it just from the start menu and i uninstalled your programme, but still it does not work and i can not shut down my computer
      thanks
      can you please solve this
      thanks
      jai

      • Hi Jai,

I’m sorry for the inconvenience. Could you please download the latest version from this page, and install it, then run the uninstaller again?
Uninstaller of Auto Shutdown will close the application, and remove its Registry keys before performing the uninstall operation.

If this doesn’t fix your problem, please tell me your Windows version, and current Auto Shutdown configuration, and I will check it.

        Best Regards
        Ali
